Balacounda

The small village of Balacounda in Senegal is likely a traditional West African community with a rich cultural history and a deep connection to the land. The photo showcases the traditional houses of the village, which are likely made from locally sourced materials such as mud, clay, and straw. These houses are often built in a circular or rectangular shape and feature thatched roofs, which provide natural insulation and protection from the hot sun.

The photograph also depicts the harvest and conservation of local crops, which is an important part of life in rural communities like Balacounda. Agriculture plays a significant role in the economy of Senegal, and the people of Balacounda likely rely on the success of their harvests to provide for their families and sustain their community. The photograph captures a moment in the daily life of the villagers and showcases the traditional ways of life that have been passed down for generations.

During a motorbike trip on this region, I sympathised with people from Balacounda, they were very nice to me. I spent a whole day with them sharing attaya (local tea) and great dinner.

Since this first trip to Balacounda, I returned twice in that region.
